The New Zealand you didn’t know

New Zealand is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and it definitely did not disappoint when I visited last year. You think of New Zealand for it’s incredible scenery, but there’s so much more from black water rafting, hiking mountains seen in the movies, to skydiving about snowy mountains and a lot of movie sets and adrenaline!

Queenstown

new zealand queenstown

One place that can feed your adrenaline needs? Try Queenstown!

This is such an incredible place, this is seen as the place for total adrenaline! Here, you can go skydiving, jump into a canyon at the Shotover Canyon Swing, throw yourself off a bridge with a bungee jump or even go snowboarding and skiing – all in this one town!

Not to forget that this place is absolutely beautiful, there are plenty of viewing points and you can get a cable car to the top of a mountain to see some breath taking views.
I went skiing at Cardrona and it was great – this was a first for me and I was surprised at how many lessons there were for beginners, although most of the 5 year olds in the younger class were way better than me!

The Shotover Canyon Swing was pretty scary for the 5 seconds that you jump off but also so much fun! There’s so many different styles on how you can jump off, whether you want to ride a tricycle, get attached to a garden chair or even have a bin tied to your head..

Wellington

new zealand wellington

This is the capital of Wellington and you won’t be disappointed! From museums to botanical gardens, there’s a lot to be seen here..

Weta Workshop was a personal favourite, here they create all of the props for films like the Lord Of The Rings Trilogy, King Kong and even Narnia. They show you how they create everything, give you a studio tour and show you that the props can be very deceiving to the eye! If you are a film buff, then I would highly recommend visiting here!

Wellington is home to one of the best museums in New Zealand too – Te Papa Museum. They had a mind blowing Gallipoli exhibition created by Weta Workshop when I visited, and the detail on these much larger than life figures was incredible! I was at the Te Papa Museum for hours and hours trying out the earthquake simulator and browsing at the culture of New Zealand and I didn’t even get around to everything whilst I was there.

Wellington is an all round amazing place to visit, there is a harbour with incredible views, a lot of shopping areas, has it’s own airport and they have the Botanical Gardens that you can get to via a cable car. Also, for any of the Welsh people out there, there is a Welsh Pub run by actual Welsh expats which is so much fun especially if you’re a little bit homesick!

Waitomo

Want to rush down waterfalls inside a cave full of glowworms? I found this hidden gem!

Here they have the most amazing glowworm caves that you can either go through via a boat, or you can do black water rafting where you flow down waterfalls and tube through the caves whilst seeing all of the glowworms.

It was so beautiful in these caves and I would highly recommend paying these a visit. It is so peaceful in there and it looks like you are gazing at stars, breathtaking! A definite must do.

Matamata

Want to know all of the ins and out of the Lord Of The Rings trilogy?

Hobbiton was the place that I was looking forward to the most when I visited New Zealand and I was blown away! Yes, it’s a bit pricey if you aren’t a huge Lord Of The Rings fan but for fans, you will adore it. You get to walk around the set of The Shire, visit the Green Dragon Inn and have a beer or cider and it will get you humming to The Shire soundtrack as you venture around trying to replicate ‘I’m going on an adventure’.

Franz Josef

Want to hike one of the most incredible glaciers in the world AND go in a helicopter?

This was my definite favourite from New Zealand, I had such an incredible weekend here and I would go back in an instant. It is a very small town but you can go up to the Franz Josef glaciers in a helicopter and hike for three hours and you can also go kayaking afterwards in the lakes surrounding the glaciers back on ground!

Milford Sound

new zealand milford sound

An Outstanding day and scenes from The Wolverine were filmed here!

We had a day out to Milford Sound and it did not disappoint! They have filmed a waterfall scene from The Wolverine here and I think that goes to say how incredible of a place it must be, so take my word on this!

Tamaki Mauri Village, Rotorua.

Want to experience the real Maori lifestyle and culture?

Here you get the full Maori experience, they will greet you and welcome you to their Maori family, show you the Maori lifestyle on how they traditionally make clothing, family games, Maori songs and of course the Haka! They even cook you an incredible meal and entertain you with beautiful Maori singing and dancing at the same time.
A definite must do to see the real culture of New Zealand.

If you want to see any of my New Zealand videos, feel free to pop over to my channel to have a browse. There are videos on the Glacier Walk, kayaking, my skydive, canyon swings..

Wellington

Oh, Wellington.. This place reminds me of being back home, it has a dock, a city, it can be nice and peaceful walking around but also has some civilisation which I like having the option! (As I found that Queenstown was so nice, but it was always busy with backpackers everywhere!).
I was initially going to stay in Wellington for another 2 months to get a job, but then I thought that it was a bit pointless by the time I actually GET a job. I wouldn’t end up earning much, so I have left back to Auckland, ready to move onto Fiji and LA.

Anyway, back onto Wellington..
I spent most of my time here in Starbucks, chilling out, looking for jobs and trying not to spend any more money! But they have a great range of free things to do, like the Te Papa Museum which is so incredible – especially the Gallipoli Exhibition by Weta Workshop! The exhibition was mindblowingly, great!

Not to forget the fact that Wellington has it’s own Welsh Bar, I know, that’s right.. A Welsh Bar.
I have never seen one (apart from in Wales, of course..) but never in a different country, it’s always Irish. So I was pretty amazed, there also seemed to be a lot of Welsh people living around that area, as I would see a lot of Welsh flags outside houses..

Wellington also is the home of the All Blacks, at the Westpac Stadium! This is where I went to Comic-Con which was really cheap compared to others, but also not too big, not too small! Great fun for a day out!

WHERE AM I NOW? WHAT AM I DOING?

Well, I am currently in Auckland at the moment, I’m not too sure if I explained this in a previous post but I am waiting for my flight to Fiji.
Basically, I thought that I was going to stay in New Zealand for 3 months and find a job, but by the time that I went travelling around, I would only have just under 2 months left. I thought to myself that by the time I find a job (2 weeks minimum), it probably wouldn’t be worth it just for the 3-4 weeks as I’ve probably spent the same amount whilst looking for a job. Does any of this make sense?

Anyway, I decided that I would leave New Zealand asap, as it’s just the sensible thing to do. I have had SUCH AN AMAZING TIME in New Zealand, it has been so incredible here. But I think that it is just the right thing to do, leave here before I end up spending money when I could be spending my money on other activities that I haven’t done like Disneyland and Las Vegas when I get to America.

So, I contacted STA Travel to change my flights via the online form (Surprise surprise, they didn’t respond to me as usual..) so my dad rang them up and asked them. We had a really helpful guy (shock horror!) that tried to get flights ASAP for me, but sadly they were really struggling to get flights from Nadi to Los Angeles. So I was and have been just waiting around until I manage to get flight confirmations, which is sort of defeating the point of the reason why I want to leave. But long behold! I have my flights confirmed and I will be leaving for Fiji in just under a week, so I am excited to move on and spend my money wisely on new things, instead of hanging around and spending on hostels, food and Starbucks.

I am really sad to be ending my travels a lot sooner than expected and I absolutely loved it here, but it’s so expensive to travel and I just can’t afford to carry on like it. Also, the amount of stress and anxiety I have had recently really needs to come down! I have been feeling like my brain is going to explode from so many thoughts, for no reason at all!

So, I’m excited and a little bit sad too. But I have to move on and carry on enjoying myself for the time being!

I will be getting wifi in Fiji at my hotel, hopefully. I’m not too sure if it’s fast, but I will do my very best to try write up some posts before I go, so I can just schedule them or actually quickly post them when I’m in Fiji. I am going to be using the time to really relax and chill out, but I will also be my usual self, saying I’m going to relax but end up trying to be productive at the same time, too!

Don’t lost hope on the blog posts, they will still be coming! And expect quite a lot of Book Reviews too, I have been doing more catching up recently!
I’ll speak to you all soon!
xx

Christchurch

*A post from the past*

Hello again, I know it has been a little while since I posted last, but I have been travelling the South Island of New Zealand for the last two weeks! It has been so much fun and the scenery is just so beautiful down there, but now it’s time to try and catch up on all of the blog posts! GAH!

I am currently on the ferry back to Wellington and have been on the bus since 7am, so I’m trying to stay awake and productive for the next three hours on this ferry!

Yesterday I arrived at Christchurch, which was a very pretty place. We firstly decided to try and find the Westfield Shopping Centre, so we had to walk through this park in Canterbury which was gorgeous – although, it did remind me of being back home in our parks!
IMG_2138
We finally found the shopping centre and I managed to find what I was looking for: Bailey Nelson. I had seen this brand in Australia and have always wanted to get a second pair of glasses whilst travelling as I get bored of the styles! Bailey Nelson are an Australian company that make really cool frames (optical, fashion and sunglasses) for a really affordable price – most of their glasses are just $99 AUD which is so cheap! The quality is still amazing though, they just don’t hire loads and loads of people to manufacture, ship, deliver, adjust them. They do everything themselves!
Anyway, I ended up ordering my glasses – obviously, I loved the more expensive pair.. but still, I can’t wait to get them in the post this week!

We only stayed the one night in Christchurch as I am keen to get back to Wellington quickly, so I can find a job and earn some money, as travelling steals all of it from you!
So like I said, I am now back on the ferry going to the North Island and get settled back in, in a city that I love being at! I cannot wait to get back and sort myself out again, although I am going to miss the South Island so, so, so much as it was incredible and really beautiful 24/7!

So that’s that for my really quick post, I know it was a bit of a ramble!
How has everyone’s last two weeks been? Has anyone read any new amazing books? Let me know, please!
xx

You'll have to bare with me..

Like the title says, you’ll have to bare with me for a little bit as like I have said in the past, the wifi in New Zealand is pretty poor in the places that I have been to! So, it doesn’t look like I’ll get much chance to upload posts for a little while. I’m very sad. 😦

I’ll explain.
I was going to stay in New Zealand for another 2 months, to get a job but I have realised that by the time I get a job (2 weeks minimum), there won’t be much point in me working for just 3-4 weeks. I’ll probably end up on the same money that I have now.
So, I am going back up to Auckland tomorrow to be on the safe side, as I have asked STA Travel to change my flights for Fiji & America for ASAP, so I just want to be there that I can leave whenever I need to.
I just hope it’s soon as I really don’t want to keep spending money on hostels and food, whilst I’m waiting around to go somewhere new!

And about the wifi, Auckland doesn’t have much wifi that I can connect to, or is fast enough to blog and upload photos/videos on. The hostel one always crashes (like my Wellington one recently) and just hardly works!

So, I have no exact idea to when I am going to get wifi to do all of these posts for you guys!
If my hotel in Fiji has wifi, great – although I’m using the time to relax. But, I will try – I have heard the wifi is very VERY expensive there. So maybe I’ll wait until I get to America. But don’t worry, in the meantime, I will be writing up the blogposts into Pages anyway and saving my images to go with them and I will post them as soon as I can!

Although I am sad to be finishing my travelling sooner, I just think that it’s the wisest choice for me. I am also sort of looking forward to going home at the same time, to my own room, to have all of my belongings again, see my friends and family, eat monster munch and trifle, play on my xbox, sort out my wardrobe and start all over again and then try to sort myself out, ready for the new year!

Prepare for a lot of drafts to be written today! I don’t want to fall behind!
