The Good Dinosaur

Okay, I have finally seen The Good Dinosaur and it did not disappoint!
I had no idea what it was going to be about, apart from the fact that there is a dinosaur and a cave boy..

This was such an adorable movie, with a lot of strong family meanings – everything was about loss, regaining relationships, coming together to make things work.

Although, I was surprised at how many disasters and set backs there were in this film! I thought that this was going to be a ‘Dinosaur meets Cave Boy, become friends and only one tragedy’ a whole rounded Disney/Pixar film filled with happiness! I was wrong.

But don’t get me wrong, this film is still so great and has so much more meaning to it and the relationships within it. It has a really strong storyline and features some hilarious and down right cute characters!

The visuals are beautiful as always, although they are different than usual! In The Good Dinosaur, I noticed that they have been placing real life images into the backgrounds and then working with animation over the top of these. Yes, it saves a lot of time from producing such huge  visuals (every single branch, leaf, ripple of water, grain on the ground..) but personally I still do prefer everything to be solely animated? Call me old fashioned, but I just have a love and passion for animation and illustration. My main thing about animation films for me is the art, concept, inspiration and the amount of detail put into the animations – more than the storylines themselves.

Overall, I really did enjoy this film and I think that it is a great watch – I felt like it shares little emotions and such from other Disney and Pixar classics which all tied together. I did not love this so much that I wanted to rewatch it again immediately, but give me a little time and I can see this growing on me more and more now that I know what’s in store for me! I think I was slightly in shock when I watched this as it was not like anything I initially expected!

I would definitely recommend giving The Good Dinosaur a watch!
Now I just cannot wait for Finding Dory and Coco to come out next!
Have you seen this film yet? Did you enjoy it or feel the same as me, not as expected but still great? Let me know!

Hobbiton Movie Set Tour!

One of the highlights of my trip so far – I got to go to the Hobbiton Movie Set Tour in Matamata, NZ!
It was incredible!
They have around 32 Hobbit Holes which look amazing and have been rebuilt for tourism now. So you can stand inside some of these, although they have nothing inside. But it’s so much fun to have photos by them, as they all come in different sizes for when they were filming certain characters like Gandalf or the hobbits!   11738064_10153055932277362_6149046580230791735_n 11738115_10153055939417362_5022644998741200205_n 11403369_10153055934562362_712599212198397994_n
At the end of the tour, we got to have a free drink from the Green Dragon which was a replica from the movies although it wasn’t used for filming.11709721_10153055940012362_3430862927788959088_n10995854_10153055939747362_4922334749171172941_n
The inside was absolutely adorable and much needed as it was freezing outside, we all huddled around the fire including the Hobbiton Set cat, too! The cider was also pretty good too, which they only brew and sell at Hobbiton! Try to order it as soon as you get there though, because your guide might rush you and you have to down it.. getting yourself a little bit tipsy like I was…

think that the Hobbiton Movie Set Tour was so much fun and I would definitely recommend it to Lord Of The Rings fans. Some people did say that it was expensive, but they weren’t really fans of LOTR. So I would say that it is definitely worth the money ($90), compared to other activities in these areas! Very informative guides that told you a lot of facts and pointed out little spoilers, too!

Big Hero 6 Review

BIG HERO 6?! – Oh my, this film blew me away!
I have a huge passion for animation and this film was incredible!
Hiro-and-Baymax-Big-Hero-6_article_story_large fred-big-hero-6-1

I have heard that it’s a good film, but usually I don’t believe the hype on some things. Yes, I was sceptical about this film at first, but as soon as it started I was in love!
I love the environment design, character design, the humour.. everything!
This film definitely appeals to children and also the older audience – I think that a lot of ‘nerdier’ people would love this too, and I even spotted a Stan Lee-esqe character who is Fred’s Dad in the film and is actually voiced by Stan Lee!

I don’t want to write a lot incase I spoil the film, so I will leave it here with my overall, general opinion. Go and watch this film! *These aren’t my images*
If any of you have seen this film, then please let me know what you thought about it, I would love to know!

The Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald

Yet again, this was the first time that I have read this book!
I found this book very easy to read and as it was only 200(and something) pages long, it was a very quick read also.

I had a suspicion that this book would be about the 1940s, parties, glamourous women and possible underground gang crime – I was wrong.
I found this book as more of a slight romance novel, which disappointed me a little compared to my expectations of the storyline.

Although I had my hopes up, I did quite enjoy this book and I think that I would enjoy it a lot more if I re-read it!

3.5 out of 5 (for now)

Kick Ass 2

I finally got around to watching Kick Ass 2 last night! I am a big fan of the graphic novels and wanted to see this film on the day it came out, unfortunately most of my friends aren’t into the same genre of films as me, so it didn’t happen until now!

It’s hard to create a successful and exciting sequel, that lives up to the first film. I think that Kick Ass 2 was a good second film to the series, especially the introduction of new characters – portrayed just as I imagined them.

The one big flop about Kick Ass 2, was that weird Union J moment – what was going on with that? Sponsored, yes? I just got forced to watch their music video. Traumatised.

Other than that, I really enjoyed this film – although I much preferred the first movie, mainly down to the plot and origins.

Does anyone else feel strange about seeing Chloe Moretz growing up?

My thoughts on ‘Gravity’ – stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney

So, you don’t get too much from the trailer that I saw, but I was so intrigued by it that I immediately had to see this film! It might be because I’m slightly obsessed with anything space related, but still I went!

I wasn’t really sure what was going to be featured in this film, if it was a disaster movie, a film like Alien or whatever. No aliens, but I absolutely loved this film! Although the only scenes you saw were mainly in space (and I’m not going to ruin the end of the film), but it was so engulfing.

The only thing that irritated me slightly in this film was that anything Sandra Bullock had to do, she would do it wrong and cause a mini disaster. It’s like ‘C’mon woman, just grab something! Don’t click that button! Don’t jump out of the spacecraft!’.

I would definitely see this film again, and I cannot wait for it to come out on dvd!

Did any of you enjoy this film? Any ups or downs? Did Sandra irritate you slightly?

The dog part was a little random though, right?

TOO GOOD – 5/5!

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2

The much awaited sequel – Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2! I was so excited when I heard that they were making a sequel – although sequel’s aren’t always the best, I was so impressed with this! I personally think that it is much better than the first film!

I don’t want to give much away about the film, so I’ll just write my opinions here.

My main reason: the adorable characters that are in this film! I was amazed by the world that they created, it’s something that I would’ve loved to work on and design. They combined animals with food, to create different creatures for this new world such as Hipotatomus and Mosquitoast. It was insanely adorable, brightly coloured and full of humour. If I may say, the cuteness pushed the monkey out of the scene a little bit (especially the strawberry).

If you haven’t seen this, but loved the first one then GO AND SEE IT ASAP! You will be pleasantly surprised!

This film is definitely suitable for all ages, especially children, but also for the big children at heart. I would also recommend this to the animation lovers.

Definite 4/5!
