Australia Zoo

I recently visited Australia Zoo and I literally could not wait to go here! It was such an amazing day and was one of the biggest things to tick off my Australia list.
Australia Zoo is an hours drive from Brisbane, so I decided to go with Greyhound that do packages of the bus and the entrance fee. (I’ll insert a link at the bottom of the post).

As soon as I got into the park, I saw that they had so many animals there and within 5 minutes I was allowed to hold a Blue Tongued Lizard, who was way too adorable! And no, they didn’t charge me for it!

They had so many great experiences at this zoo, as it was a lot more interactive and the animals had a lot more room to roam around in. For example, I went to the kangaroo area where you can buy Kangaroo food for $2 a bag which is very cheap compared to other places I have been to! So, it was great fun to be able to feed all of the kanagaroos and watch the kids reactions. They were completely loving the experience!

They then had a more serious and heart felt section of the park as obviously, this is the zoo that Steve Irwin and his family founded. As people know, he loved animals and put so much into this zoo that it was so sad to see all of the memorial parts of the zoo. I almost shed a tear!

I then got the opportunity to hold a koala bear, as you cannot do this in New South Wales (where I had been for the past 8 months). I had such an amazing time, it was $40 (I think) and you get a lot of time with them. You go in groups of 4 and she will tell you all about them, as you’re holding them. There is also a professional photographer there, so you can purchase photos of you with the koala or even get somebody else to take photos on your own camera. They aren’t too fussy here, as long as you’re having a great time. (And the koala bears were amazing, so soft, I wanted to keep one!)

They had plenty of shows to watch at the zoo, like the famous crocodile and bird shows in the well-known arena. I really enjoyed their shows and talks, there was a lot of interaction with the guests, although I wasn’t too sure on the crocodile show. I know that it was a show, but I felt like they just tease the crocodile (and then feed them, of course) but I just felt a little weird about this and sorry for the crocodiles! I know that they need to do this for show purposes though..

They also had some bird sanctuaries that had all sorts of tropical birds, an Asia themed place that had tigers, Africa that had giraffes and rhinos, and so many more places..
11535876_10153022483322362_7270503211466752268_n
Here is another example of guest interaction, they like to bring the animals out for show so you can touch and ask questions about each species!

A
little brief, but that was my experience at Australia Zoo! I had such an amazing day, although it was raining. I loved every minute of it, especially the gift shop! But I would highly recommend going to this zoo, no matter what age or even if you’re on your own (like I was!).

Have you been here?

Small Brief: My Last Adventure in Australia!

That’s right, it’s my last adventure in Australia.
I have been travelling from Brisbane up to Cairns for the last 10 days, and my my, it has been amazing!
I thought that I would quickly write a brief on this trip for you all, and then when I have more time in the next few days, I will write a few posts on the specific places, where I went, what company I went with, what to expect, bla bla bla..

So, I am going to paste in my travel log here as I don’t want to give every small detail away.
Here it goes:
14th June
Today I have just been packing my backpack for my Brisbane>Cairns trip! I then ended up going for my last Harrys pie with Fiona, Constanze and Kristin.

15th June
I am finally here! I am in Brisbane, in Starbucks at the moment trying to catch up on this updating business! I just booked my Australia Zoo tickets and I cannot wait to hold a Koala Bear tomorrow! EEEEEE!

16th June
Today I went to Australia Zoo and it was such an amazing day! I loved it there! Firstly, I held a Blue Tongue Lizard, then I went to see all of the animals, fed kangaroos and then held a Koala! It was such a great zoo, and it was also really touching seeing all of the Steve Irwin tributes!
I then came back to the hostel for our G Adventures meeting, so we all went down to the bar downstairs and got to meet each other, before heading to a japanese restaurant.
Then we had to pack our overnight bags for Fraser Island!

17th June
Today is the day that we leave! Woo!
We were all up and in the bus by 8am, then started to head off to Rainbow Beach, so we could catch the ferry to Fraser Island and drive the 4X4!
When we got to Fraser Island, it was pouring down with rain, but it still didn’t dampen our spirits. We went for a swim in Lake Mackenzie before setting up camp and having a barbecue in the evening!

18th June
We got up early again today and went for a morning swim in Eli Creek which was so much fun! We floated down the creek in rubber dinghies and chilled out for a while. We then went back for lunch, before heading off for a scenic flight of Fraser Island which was incredible! Definitely worth the $50!
After that, we went to Champagne Pools for a swim and a hike around the edge of the island.
We then went back, had a few drinks after food (which turned a little too much for some people!) and then we headed to bed to get up early again!

19th June
We left Fraser Island today, we all got back in the 4X4 and headed to the ferry. We had such a blast on the journey, playing some great music to sing along to and joking around with each other.
When we got back to Rainbow Beach, we waited an hour until we had to leave for the train station, so we ended up charging our phones incase we need them and then went on a 5 hour train journey to Rockhampton.
We stayed at a Cattle Farm in Rockhampton which was really cool and got to sleep out under the stars in a swag! We had a campfire, marshmallows, beef stew and decided to play the werewolf game for a few hours!

20th June
This morning, we went to see all of the animals on the farm and fed them which was really nice. We are now on the bus, so we can board our boat for the Whitsundays later!

21st June
After a great nights sleep on the boat, we are up and ready! We went to Whitehaven Beach today which was chilly, but still so sunny. We didn’t even realise how sunny it was, and all burnt our legs from the reflections off the sand! I also saw the biggest spider that I have ever seen, too!
We then went Scuba Diving in the afternoon, which made me freak out at first but then it was one of the best experiences I have ever done, too! We also had a costume party on the boat in the night too! Too much fun!

22nd June
This morning, we went snorkelling which was so much fun! We saw absolutely stunning fish and coral and we had the whole place to ourselves! We then stopped at Airlie Beach and stayed at Base Backpackers for the night, so we decided to have a meal together and a small night out before a 4.30am wake up call the next day!
1509908_10153022624247362_7367001304851751134_n

23rd June
4.30am wake up call, so we can catch a 10 hour train ride to Cairns! It was actually really relaxing on the train and most of us just slept most of the way through. Not forgetting, the trains are pretty incredible in Queensland, they are very similar to the service and facilities you’d get on a plane and so much room, too!
We then got to Cairns and straight away, we went to do a A J Hackett Minjin Swing (some of the boys did a bungee jump, too).
11059673_10153022406382362_5716841450635545420_n

All of this was way too fun, and I can’t wait to talk to you all more in depth about each day and some activities!
Keep an eye out for my next few posts, I will fill them with useful links for you all!

TRAVEL LOG 02.03.15 – 16.03.15

02/03/15 I bumped into Isabel in the toilets this morning, so I have hung around with her and her friends all day! Everyone is so nice, and we went for dumplings for our lunch!

04/03/15 It’s the first day of the F1 set up today – there was a lot of lifting, unloading, construction and I know I will aching in the morning haha! But it was so much fun and I met some more new people!
I cannot wait for the F1 to actually start!

05/03/15 I am currently in Starbucks catching up with some blog posts, just phoned Barb for the first time and am hoping to go to H&M to get some basics for farming.
I had lunch cooked for me today by my two new asian friends, which was really nice of them.
I check out tomorrow to go to Urban Central and I just booked my day tour to Great Ocean Road!

06/03/15 I went back to Starbucks today so I could catch up on blog posts and everything – not much happened! Just getting ready for tomorrow!

07/03/15 I went on my trip to the Great Ocean Road today – it was amazing, I loved it! I saw some wild koala bears, went into a rainforest, visited several gorgeous beaches and then saw the twelve apostles!

08/03/15 I started back at work again today, setting up more stands for the F1 Grand Prix. Although, I drove on the race course today!
11043142_10152785906157362_8633377772790681690_n
09/03/15 I went to work again today, same thing really. Just had an induction as well for a little bit, got to know which marquee I was working on and that was about it! My logs will probably be really boring until Thursday, so I won’t write much here.
I also saw loads of amazing hot air balloons everywhere this morning, so pretty!

10/03/15 I drove on the circuit again today, in the work van! It was such an experience whilst all of the signs and fences were up – I took a video which I will try to post onto my blog, too! I will do a mini YouTube video as well, although I haven’t filmed much yet!
We also got to see people pulling out all of the bollards on the track for the race, which must’ve taken hours and hours to do! We also saw them repainting the sponsors signs all around the track, although they looked perfect from last year – it’s still not good enough! 😀
11054494_10152785906052362_4414469369081547976_n

11/03/15 I saw some of the safety cars driving around the track today as they closed it for practises, so good! I also heard a lot of the drivers testing last night – exciting!

12/03/15 The Formula One is finally starting! Today is Corporate Day mainly, and some of the general public can come in too. It’s pretty quiet so far, but it will be a lot busier over the next three days! We have already sold out of so much stock already, on the first day – crazy!
I heard a lot of the cars practising today and managed to run up onto the grandstand at 7am to take a video whilst one came past – it was so fast though that I couldn’t even see who it was driving!

13/03/15 It’s the first main day of the Grand Prix! I got to wonder around Albert Park on my breaks, so I went to see the Opening Ceremony cars that the drivers arrive in – too cool!
10460540_10152792339027362_4490982652755768826_n

14/03/15 Today is Qualifying Day! I sat by the screens on my break to watch it, sadly McLaren did not do very well but it was still so exciting to watch! The atmosphere was crazy!
10599301_10152794063832362_1053218333237010315_n
15/03/15 Today is the last day of the Formula One Grand Prix – so sad! Everything has been so exciting, and although it’s the main race today, it will all be over straight afterwards.

After the race finished, I heard a load of hysterical screaming and shouting coming from the grandstand, so I ran up to have a look and people were waiting for the drivers to come out.
I got to see Rosberg, which was amazing! Sad to be finishing my work here!
11073910_10152678063167097_1584163268263893815_n

16/03/15 My first day off in ages, today I am getting myself organised for tomorrow as I fly back to Sydney to go farming. I have packed my backpack whilst drinking a celebratory ‘Well Done Zoe, You worked hard’ cider and a Kinder Bunny. I also went to the post office to send a box to my parents with a few bits of merchandise from the Formula One for them, as they’re very jealous that I was working there!

Did you guys watch the Grand Prix? Or visited the Great Ocean Road? It was definitely one of my favourite places so far, with Byron Bay!

Featherdale Wildlife Park!

So on Friday, I went to Featherdale Wildlife Park which was such a great experience!
It’s about an hour out of Sydney, but it’s really nice to visit as it’s less touristy and the prices are lower! Not forgetting that you can touch the koala bears and kangaroos!

It’s smaller than I thought, but it’s still so enjoyable. They have a wide range of different animals here and even the food and gift shop are reasonably priced!

Here are a few photos from when I went:

Have you visited Featherdale or somewhere similar? Let me know!
