My Updated Life with Psoriasis

Here we are again with another Psoriasis post! It turns out that the last time I wrote a blog post about my Psoriasis was at least two years ago, which is crazy! How has the time gone by so far already?

Anyway, getting into the post..
As some of you may know, I have suffered with Psoriasis since I was around the age of 7 or 8. I first noticed this when I was in school, it was raining outdoors and in class, I realised that my skin was really sore. I went to the bathroom and being a 7 year old child, what do you do? Throw some hand wash over your face, wash your face and hope for the best!
Obviously, I did not know that I had Psoriasis and putting soap on my face was probably the last thing I would ever do now. So, I had a VERY red forehead and hairline when I went home and that’s when I went to the doctors and HOORAH, it’s Psoriasis..

What is Psoriasis some of you might ask?
Well, Psoriasis is a skin condition that you cannot cure. Your skin tends to become really red, inflamed, it can flake, become very itchy, weep and just look pretty gross to other people.

It is not contagious, so do not worry!

img_9799

My Psoriasis is a lot milder than other peoples. Unfortunately, some people can get this all over their bodies, where it cracks, bleeds and is debilitating them from movement.

What are the causes of Psoriasis?
Nobody knows, but basically your body is producing skin cells much quicker than it usually would. So think of it, you are getting an extra layer of skin, on top of your regular skin (technically it gradually moves up through the layers of skin) and hence why it flakes.

What can cause a flare up of Psoriasis?
It is said that a number of things can trigger Psoriasis such as stress, smoking, drinking excessive amounts of alcohol, throat infections, other immune disorders and even hormonal changes.
Some people even think that certain foods can really trigger their Psoriasis, but that’s another boat to go into, so maybe another time I’ll write up about that!

What do I do to my Psoriasis to keep it at bay?
I am quite lucky with my Psoriasis, it is mainly in my scalp, behind my ears, can flare up around my T-Zone, neck and eyebrows.
Luckily, mine can be quite unnoticeable until it flares up. When this happens, I will usually use a Cortizone cream which is a steroid cream (I believe this is called Hydrocortizone in the UK, you cannot get this over-the-counter). I don’t particularly like using these especially as you shouldn’t use them on your facial skin (there is a reason for it) but I find that this works for my skin when it’s a mini-emergency to really calm it down.

On a day-to-day basis, I will leave my skin alone pretty much. I do not put any ointment on it, I just try to go about my day with a normal moisturiser and in the night, I will cleanse my skin with pure Coconut Oil (comes hard, so needs to be left to melt in your hand into an oil) and then I will apply some more onto the flakier parts of my face. This has been a recent discovery of mine and so far it is going really well, it has left my skin really soft, no flakes and so far, I am not worrying about ‘When am I going to flare up?’.

I do not wear foundation or moisturisers that have a huge amount of chemicals in them. I like to keep my skincare quite simple as I don’t really see the point in putting all stuff that I don’t know about into my skin. Surely it’s not great for the skin, right?

What can help Psoriasis?
Some people believe that the sun can really clear up cases of Psoriasis, but from my personal point of view for me it doesn’t really work. If anything, it aggravates my skin and causes it to flare up. I have known many people that really benefits from the sun though, so it’s just down to the each individual.

Other people resort to Steroid Creams or Ointments to nourish the skin daily.
I also know a few people that go for Phototherapy, this is when your skin is exposed to a special type of UV light and it can really clear up the Psoriasis.

I have also heard that people can take tablets and injected medication for Psoriasis, but I personally don’t have any experience with this at all. It’s all really trial and error for your own personal needs and it can take some time, but when you’ve found a routine that your skin likes stick to it!

I have also heard that some tea’s can help with Psoriasis too such as Rooibos Tea, Ginger Tea.. Here is a link to Beautymunsta’s Blog where I found this article on the Best Tea’s for Psoriassis!

So I won’t bore you all too much with all of the little details as I could talk about this all day! But I will leave some links to helpful websites below:

What am I looking forward to on Netflix 2017?

As you might have seen from my previous blog post, that I was incredibly invited to a Netflix Event in Cardiff! I was extremely grateful for this opportunity and I think I am still a little shocked haha – so I want to quickly say a huge thank you to the team for having us there and we had an absolute blast!

So, at this Netflix event we were shown some exclusive clips and trailers for upcoming shows for 2017 and believe me, they look incredible!

Firstly, the one I am most excited for so far has to be 13 Reasons Why. This is actually being released on the 31st March which is actually tonight! I cannot wait!
It is based on the book ’13 Reasons Why’ by Jay Asher which I have just noticed, I do not have a review of on my blog for some reason, when I thought I did.. Anyway, I will write one up for you all very soon!

Here is a short summary of the series from the Netflix website:
‘After a teenage girl’s perplexing suicide, a classmate receives a series of tapes that unravel the mystery of her tragic choice.’

13reasonsposter

Seriously, this series is going to be HUGE! You definitely need to give it a watch, especially as I believe that it is going to raise so much awareness especially for the younger audience (this show is appropriate for an 16-25  year old audience, obviously it is suitable for all people at the same time but this is the target audience!). From the book, it really shows you that you might think that you’re doing no harm by saying something small to somebody, but in reality they might all add up to somebody else and they might have other things going on in their lives which contribute to issues like this!

Go check out the trailer for 13 Reasons Why over at the Netflix website.

The second series that I am so excited for is Mindhunter. All I can say is that the teaser trailer that I saw for it has got me instantly hooked already and I know that I am going to love this series! I believe that this one is being released later on in the year.

‘An agent in the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit develops profiling techniques as he pursues notorious series killers and rapists.’

Mindhunter

Basically, the moral behind this is ‘To understand who is a psychopath, you have to become one yourself’. So definitely head over to the Netflix website and have a nose for yourself – I really don’t need to explain it in any more depth, you just have to watch the teaser for yourself.

Here is a teaser for Mindhunter, it looks seriously good!

So for my last choice, I feel like everybody can probably relate to this and that is the almighty Stranger Things. Let’s be honest, you have probably heard about this series about 10,000 times on Social Media, from friends, on blogs, reviews..
It is just an outstanding series that passes on some E.T and Goonies vibes for me, but with a lot of added weirdness and out of the ordinary things that happen.

‘When a young boy vanishes, a small town uncovers a mystery involving secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one strange little girl.’

netflix stranger things poster

Here is the link to Stranger Things episodes on Netflix. Season One is already out and will get you hooked instantly, but the second series will be arriving around Halloween time so it gives you enough time to catch up on the hype!

So there is a short insight into what I am looking forward to on Netflix in 2017 and I cannot wait for you all to get stuck in!
Let me know what you are currently binging on at the moment and what you’re looking forward to – I would love to know!
xx

Let’s Talk about Respect..

Review: Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Let's talk about respect..

I don’t know about you, but I was always brought up to be very polite and respect others.

Have you ever thought about how the older generation feel deep down and how you can make an impact on them?

One thing I REALLY hate is when people look down on elderly people, don’t respect them or take the p*ss out of them. You think about it, that is going to be you one day. Would you like it if you were intimidated, scared or laughed at by the younger generation? How would you feel?

You might think that they are ‘smaller, weaker and more frail’ than you but they have some of the biggest personalities and are full of experience..
I personally find elderly people to be some of the most interesting people I have ever met. They are full of experiences and so so so many stories that inspire me. I could talk to them for hours about their lifestyles, past careers, past relationships.. They are so full of knowledge, have most probably done so much more than you in your life time, might have served in a war, might have made a huge contribution to the way you live your life..

I saw a programme on BBC with the Hairy Bikers last year, where they pair up high school students with an elderly person to give them company and to share their values and experiences to possibly become friends. It was such an amazing programme, but it also let you know about the struggles and worries that they go through as well, such as feeling lonely as family either do not visit or they have no family. They also tell you about feeling threatened or intimidated by youths within their community and would rather stay in their homes. It is such an upsetting thought for me to take in and wish I could help every single one of them with my company.

When I was younger, I would talk to my Grandfather for hours on end and I was fascinated with World War II, so he would tell me all about his experience within the navy. He was such an inspirational man and I would love to still have him around to share more memories with. Unfortunately I never got to meet my Grandmother from that side of the family as she became ill at a young age.

For my other side of the family, I do know them but they have never really made the effort with me and my brother which is a shame as we could’ve made memories along the same lines as with my other half of the family.

I would really love to have grandparents still here that I am really close with, I always envy people that still have a full family around and am completely in awe!

I have seen people in public, mainly the younger generation that if an elderly person starts speaking to them they will laugh with their friends and make a gesture as if they are weird. This kills me inside, have some respect for others. They might be feeling so lonely and this is their only opportunity to speak to people for the whole day or even week, by going outdoors and meeting others.

I am loving the last few years of Christmas adverts where it shows awareness of people feeling lonely celebrating Christmas by themselves, as much as it breaks my heart.

I have met some of the most incredible and adorable customers whilst at work, whether that was when I was working at ASDA, GAME, anywhere..
I have even had customers become a regular as they really appreciate somebody having a conversation with them. I use to have a regular gentleman that would come into ASDA mainly on a Saturday to get a few bits and bobs. He was a petite and quite frail gentleman but had so much life in his eyes and really just wanted somebody to talk to. I would talk to him, joke about ‘Coming in for you weekly trifle again?’ and walk around the store with him picking up bits for him.

Sometimes people just need a chat to make their day complete.

I would really like to know if there are any volunteering opportunities around my area where you can somehow share your conversations and company with others that need someone to talk to. I will get into my research, but if you know of any then please, please let me know down below.

So here is where I cut the rambling and let you guys to the talking!
What are your opinions on this? Or your pet peeves? What REALLY annoys you whilst out in public? Let me know!

Also, a huge thank you to FashionWorked for inspiring this post, go check the blog out!

Book Review: The Sky Is Everywhere

Review: The Sky Is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson

I received a free copy of The Sky Is Everywhere in exchange for an honest review, all opinions are my own.

Title: The Sky Is Everywhere

Author: Jandy Nelson

Purchase: Available in the UK and preorder for the US.

Overall Rating: 4/5

Great For: Young Adult

Themes: Struggles, Life and Death, Bringing good from unfortunate times

Review: That’s right, there is another Jandy Nelson that has had so much hype over and I can definitely see why people do. I wasn’t completely in love with the book but it is such an intriguing read and you won’t want to put it down!

‘The Sky Is Everywhere’ is about a girl called Lennie who has recently lost her sister, Bailey. Her sister suddenly passed away and Lennie has to learn how to carry on with life without her beloved sister. She is desperately holding onto her sisters memories and possessions and is finding it so hard to believe she isn’t around anymore. The same goes for her sister’s boyfriend, who opens up about a lot of undiscovered things about their relationship (I won’t spoil the storyline for you, don’t worry!)

As life goes on, Lennie doesn’t progress with it.. She is still holding onto her sisters memories and hasn’t been able to go to high school the same since. Everyone stares at her, asks how she is doing every day which is a constant reminder that her sister isn’t there anymore.

She meets a new guy to her class (Joe) who hasn’t been filled in on all of the ‘gossip’ of the school and he is also very cute! He starts to talk to Lennie and finally she feels a sense of trust within somebody that doesn’t know about her sister. With Joe, she feels like she can really be her normal self again without any judgement or sympathy.
Could this be a new friendship or maybe even more?

In this story, there are a lot of family values involved, the ups and downs of relationships, struggles and trying to get through the hard times and try to see a positive at the end of it.
There is so much more to this book than just what I have mentioned, but I don’t want to spoil the whole storyline so I will leave it here.
But if you really want a heartwarming story about loss, friendship and family, then I would highly recommend having a read of this! It was a pretty quick and easy read for me too – so give it a go!

Don’t forget you can purchase it from Amazon UK and Amazon.com here.

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

I know it is past Christmas, but I feel like I really need to do a review on Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Walt Disney World in Orlando. I believe that this might come in handy if people are planning on booking a Christmas getaway this year (and for future, of course!)

Firstly, to get the pricing out of the way.. Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party is at an additional cost. So you basically have to purchase a ticket for the party which is usually from 6/7pm until midnight (early entry into the park from 4pm). The tickets are priced differently as they are slightly cheaper before the major dates in December, but when I went on the 23rd December it was $99 per adult plus tax and $94 for a child.
Although saying this, keep in mind that if you already have an annual pass you can get a small discount on these tickets!

The great thing about this event is that some families enjoy attending whilst dressed in their pyjamas and Christmas hats which was really fun to see (although I was a little jealous of how comfy they looked!)

What is Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party?
It is a festive party where the park is completely transformed, filled with Christmas music, lots of free cookies and hot cocoa being given out and you get to see the Christmas parades and meet exclusive characters in their appropriate attire for the event!

15589566_10154236713107362_7830444004257530537_n

Is the party worth the $99?
Personally, I would say that if it was $59, then I would say yes as it is a really fun event and you get to meet the characters in costumes that they usually wouldn’t wear! But to be honest, as you get closer to Christmas Day the parks tend to roll out the exact same Christmas parades that you were paying to see to the general public on a normal day.
I would definitely say that if you are really into meeting your characters then I would recommend it, especially if you are going to get your moneys worth of cookies too!

An upside to the event is that most people are going to be seeing the parades, shows and meeting characters so this means that the attraction times are usually reduced quite a bit. There are a limited amount of tickets for each night of the event, so the park will be much quieter when you are there but still expect long queues for the character meet and greets!

15622557_10154236712972362_8826653476438681136_n15622127_10154236712892362_7486961245708265147_n

What is the food and drink like?
At the event, they have ‘Treat Trails’ or a station that is called something along those lines. You basically have your Very Merry wristband on (they give it to you at the entrance of the park) and you can queue up for unlimited cookies, hot cocoa and eggnog. Each station tries to have a variety of flavours for you to try, for example they had Ginger Cookies, Peppermint Bark, Molasses..

Did I enjoy it?
I really did enjoy the event, it was a first time for me and I do understand that it was pricey but it was really nice to have the opportunity to get some really nice festive photos with characters that I usually wouldn’t have gotten to meet AND all in their festive gear (like in my photos!).
I really enjoyed that it was quiet in the park too although the event had already sold out, the only negative thing I have to say about the event is that it’s expensive and we were in Orlando during the main Christmas week so we saw the exact same parades on the run up to Christmas as we did at Very Merry which was a little gutting as we did pay for that advantage!
The event did make me feel really christmassy and festive though and I had a fab time there but personally I would not spend the $99 to do it again – it was lovely the first time, but I feel that at that price it’s more of a ‘one opportunity’ kind of event for me and my family!

Is there anything else you’d like to know about Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party? Let me know!
Have you been before? What did you think about it? Enjoy it? Worth the money or not?

What's on my Beauty Wish List?

Hello again, somehow it looks like another month has flown by and I thought that I should really do a ‘Beauty Wish List’ as I am constantly skint being a university student all over again and it’s a good opportunity as I haven’t had the money to just go out and purchase these! Some good can come out of it, I guess..

fix
Let’s just get stuck right in, shall we?
MAC Prep + Prime Fix+
Number one is going to be MAC’s Prep + Prime Fix+ which is ‘A lightweight water mist that gently soothes and refreshes skin and finishes makeup.’ I have heard that this is very multifunctional and a really great all round product! Some people use it to get a dewy look after applying make up, to refreshen and moisturise the skin, to help make up cling on to the skin to last all day and finally, to enhance eyeshadow pay off (the main reason that I really want to try it!). There are plenty more uses for this product that you can find on many blogs and YouTube videos!

Here are a few that I found very helpful:

Too Faced Peach Palette
Next up is the Too Faced Peach Palette – yup, that’s right you have most probably seen this palette absolutely everywhere on Social Media from instagram, to snapchat, to blogs, to twitter.. EVERYWHERE!
Obviously there is a reason for this as it is so god damn beautiful to look at and accordingly, it smells like peaches too!
In my spare time, mainly when I am skint I enjoy doing surveys to get vouchers and I always redeem mine at Debenhams so I am definitely saving up for this bad boy!
You can get this from the Debenhams website for £39.00

Here are a few incredible instagram photos of this palette in all it’s glory:

Lush Bathbombs
This is always on my wish list, mainly because:
I do. not. have. a. bathtub.
I know, it is a very sad time.. A bath would make such a difference to my stress levels recently and I am just too excited to move into a new apartment in the summer with my boyfriend (where we have made an agreement – the apartment needs a bathtub).

The Library Of Fragrance
I have spotted these in Boots quite a few times (in the smaller express store) so I have only smelt a handful of scents but I am completely in love with them already! I have been eyeing up the Mint Choc Chip Ice Cream scent, until I went on their website and saw all of the other most incredible scents ever! (Apart from Play-Doh, I don’t think I will be too fond on that one to be honest haha)..
Go check out all of their scents here – I currently have £20 of Boots points on my card, so I might make a cheeky purchase tomorrow with them! These are usually £15, but a few select fragrances are £9.99 on their main website.

ColourPOP Lipstick

My last love is ColourPOP’s Lippie Stix which I have never tried. I saw one of Zoella’s YouTube videos  (I believe it was her Make Up Collection) where she mentions how incredible these products are and that they are super affordable!
I definitely want to give these a try, the only thing really stopping me is the delivery as it has to be International. Although I am sure there is probably somewhere else I can purchase them from in the UK..
Here is the ColourPOP website, incase you want to have a good look! The Lippie Stix are a whopping $5 each, which is incredible!

Hope you enjoyed my Beauty Wish List – I love to get new inspiration for products that I will love, so feel free to comment below what you are loving or are lusting for!

My January Favourites

January Wrap-up

Well, hello again!
I know that it is mid February at the moment but I thought that I would really like to reflect back on each month throughout the year and why not start with January? Duh.

Lets get started.
January was kick started off with celebrating New Years Eve in Epcot, Walt Disney World which was a completely new experience for me – especially the way that the Americans celebrate it!
I started off January with my birthday at the very beginning of the month! It turns out that we flew back from our Orlando Christmas holiday on my birthday and were then stuck in traffic until 5pm. Although when I arrived home, I was so excited to see my dog Coco and boyfriend as I hadn’t seen them over the Christmas period! So, off to a good start..
My family got me a birthday cake which was the most incredible thing ever which was a cake from Disney’s Sleeping Beauty as it is one of my favourite Disney movies (there’s a scene where Flora, Fauna and Merryweather are making a cake and a dress for Aurora and do not know how to do so without magic!)

I had a blast with my family and boyfriend celebrating, but then we had a really sad announcement that my budgie Dexter had passed away. Some of you might have seen him previously on my snapchat, instagram and blog and he was amazing! He was a blue male budgie that was talk how to say certain phrases from Star Wars and all sorts!
Here is an instagram video of him:

So, Dexter can now say ‘May The Force Be With You’ and ‘Zoe’s Boy’ 👍

A video posted by nuggetstumpblog (@nuggetstumpblog) on Oct 21, 2013 at 1:11am PDT

Moving on through the month, I went back to university for the next term where I was crammed with deadlines right at the beginning so I did have a super stressful week or two but it was such a relief afterwards when everything was handed in!
University has been going really well so far with my animation classes, I am learning so much and progressing slowly but surely! There have been a few steep hills when it comes to my anxiety, too many hours at my current job, essay writing and the possibility that I could be dyslexic (thank you auto correct on my computer!).

Other than that there hasn’t been as much going on yet – me and my boyfriend have been trying to reduce the amount of times that we go out to eat and have started cooking again (mainly him, as I really hate it with a passion). I have also been really good when it comes to spending, although I am still skint but there must be an onwards and upwards from here!

My flat has also been refurbished recently, so I am all moved back in, everything in fresh and everything looks amazing! The only shame is that I am in shared accommodation and the thought that it isn’t going to be kept in this condition is a little sad but we are hoping to move into our own flat in the summer so that will be really exciting!

From there, I think that that is it for my January Wrap-up!
Basically, I really enjoy doing these sorts of posts as I really target and focus on the problems that I have been going through and it forces me to think how I can do something differently or go about another way of doing so.
For example, I am now going through the process of getting some advice and assistance with my anxiety and possible dyslexia, so hopefully this is going to make some things a lot easier and manageable for me from now on!

So, I will leave the post there and would love to hear about your January(s) and how you think you can improve yourselves whether it is your lifestyle, diets, financial matters, even just little things like having a good clear out of a wardrobe or even redecorating..
Let me know, I would love to read these and get some inspiration on ways that I can improve things!
