Review: Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Title: Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children

Author: Ransom Riggs

Purchase: Available in the UK and the US.

Overall Rating: 4/5

Great For: Young Adult, Fans of Thrillers

Themes: Death, Supernatural, History

Review: Ok, so I have heard a lot of hype around this book (& now the series) and I wasn’t too sure what I was going to think about this..
I actually loved this book! I was surprised at how drawn in I was to this, from the moment I started reading – I could not put it down! I ended up reading it in 2 days and it did not disappoint at any point.

Now I am looking forward to reading the second and third (and then wait for the film to come out!).
Another great little detail about this book, is that it is set in Wales – represent!

If you haven’t read this book yet, it is about a small home in North Wales where ‘Peculiar Children’ stay. They are all different, some have powers, some have odd appearances but there is a reason why they are kept away and there is a big twist but I feel like I cannot say, as it will pretty much ruin the whole book!

I would definitely recommend picking up this book, and I have heard that Tim Burton is going to be directing the film, if I think correctly?

Have you read this or the series? Show me your love or hate for this!

New York Pt.1

DSC04089
New York New York! I returned to a city that I adored and simply did not have time to do everything the last time!
I missed out on the Museums and Galleries last time, so my mission was to do the majority of my ‘Things I Missed’ list, although I did rush around like an idiot to do them all..

So, the first day I made some friends at the hostel during breakfast (which was weirdly a set free breakfast of doughnuts and a banana..) and headed off to the American Museum of Natural History (where they filmed some of Night At The Museum). It was such a beautiful building and it was full of amazing things to see – especially the dinosaurs, they’re my favourite!
I had such a great time here and managed to see quite a lot, but not the whole 3 floors as I had a lot on my agenda. I saw enough, took a whole load of photos here and took in the architecture of the place.DSC04133
I then decided to rush off by myself to the Metropolitan Museum of Art which was amazing, but eventually got super busy within certain exhibitions! I saw a lot of gorgeous pieces, but yet again I particularly fell in love with the architecture – it was such a beautiful building, I probably preferred that more than the pieces at the exhibitions! I really wanted to see the Costume Department as I heard that there’s a lot of House Of Dior and Yves Saint Laurent there, and I loved the exhibition that was on at the time but it was so, so busy that I gave up early!DSC04138DSC04141DSC04147
I fell in love with these two as I was quickly walking through, the filigree on the column was gorgeous and I couldn’t just walk past without snapping a quick photo! Too beautiful!DSC04154DSC04156
After I rushed around the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I decided to quickly go to the Guggenheim before I got a bite to eat. It was a great building, and although I love modern art, I felt like a lot of the exhibitions were a bit TOO modern for me. (For example, there was a dark room with one single light bulb lit inside – could have a strong meaning and definition, but it was literally a light bulb).DSC04179
Whilst in New York, I had the CityPass which I bought the time before, when I visited. It is a great idea, as it is a booklet full of tickets for the attractions such as the Empire State Building, Statue Of Liberty (Ellis Island and Cruise), Museums, Galleries, 9/11 Memorial.. and it is a LOT cheaper than if you paid separately for these! (Plus, they’re open dated).
So as I missed out on some last time, I purchased the CityPass again and decided to do the Sunset Liberty Cruise which went through New York in the evening, where I got to see the Statue Of Liberty, Freedom Tower and pretty much all of the sights from the cruise – it was beautiful!DSC04212DSC04234DSC04252
Sadly, my camera was not fond of the motion of the boat and the darkness combined – so here was the best photo whilst the sun had set! I guess I can say that I tried..DSC04264DSC04274
All in all, I had such a great time in New York and this cruise was definitely one of the highlights for me! Although I travelled alone and did all of the attractions by myself (apart from the museum that day) – I had such a great time and I feel strongly about the fact that you don’t HAVE to have company and restrict yourself because you’re by yourself!

Have you been to New York before? What was your favourite attraction?
I would absolutely love to go for Christmas, one year!
Part Two coming up!

Time for the next step in my life!

I’m feeling like a little post on whatever is on my mind, at the moment.
I am so excited for the next chapter of my life. I am hoping to move to London (surrounding areas, as it’s cheaper) and to hopefully get a Junior Web Developer job.

I cannot wait to start looking at apartments/houses and at jobs that I would love to do!
I even went to Currys today, had a look at all of the home products and fell in love with the Dyson V6 Absolute (link here) too! I have all these future visions in my mind right now – it’s exciting!

I personally feel that when I don’t live at home, I feel like a completely different person. I am me.
I am more mature, I will cook for myself, eat healthier and I will enjoy it too. I will also bake a lot more, which I love doing as it will be my kitchen. I will enjoy decorating my place as I adore some interior design and cannot wait to purchase some amazing pieces for my kitchen – such as the Phillipe Starck juicer, that I have had my eye on since I was about 15/16!

I find this so exciting and by being a christmas temp at work, it is giving me that extra kick to get through my Coding course online, work harder and faster to get ready by the time that I am finished with work in January! Too much motivation going on right now!

I know that it can be expensive living in the surrounding areas of London, and I know that the wiser choice is to live with more people to make it cheaper. But I personally believe that I can find something smaller for cheaper, if I really look properly (I have already found a few beautiful places that would be perfect!). Although it would be cheaper, I think that it is personally worth me paying that little bit extra so that I can be happier and less stressed with the people I will live with! Definitely worth the money for me!
I like my own space, peace and quiet when I can get it and clean clean clean spaces!

I cannot wait to have my place, my own decor, a bookshelf, have a Mon/Fri 9-5, go out for a relax and coffee on the weekends, be able to do one of London’s many things in my spare time (museum, galleries, book stores, shopping, sights, meet up with friends..) I simply cannot wait!
Is it just me that’s in this stage at the moment? Anyone else feeling like this? Get excited over the little things like what products to have or decor? I cannot wait, and yes, my butt is so on Pinterest right now having a browse!
I feel like I have so many ideas in my mind right now that I need to write it all down – I might have another good go at Pinterest this evening and get my brainstorms out in one go!
Apologies for the ramble!
